A SCHOOL in Chard is looking to raise money to pay for every newborn baby in the town to have a free reading book per month.
Holyrood Academy has started up ‘Our Big Exercise Promise’ this January where they plan to get fit together thanks to ‘The Holyrood Hike’.
Along with the other 10 schools within the Blackdown Education Partnership, they will be running, hiking, walking, rowing, and climbing.
Holyrood Academy is raising money to pay for every newborn baby in Chard to have a free reading book per month through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
It costs £29 per child, per year, and they hope to raise £4,000 through their challenge.
Every member of the trust community, including students, staff, parents/carers, governors, and other family members, can join in.
Kat Wilcher, head of house coordinator said: “House spirit is really strong here at Holyrood and all our students and staff have thrown themselves into the challenge of getting fit and raising money for their community.
“We've already had over 1000 collective KMs logged and we are so excited to see how far each of our houses manages to get by the end of the month - maybe one house will get all the way to Holyrood in Canada."
