A FLOOD warning has been issued for the River Axe (Upper) as Storm Henk hits the South West with heavy rain.
The Environment Agency said flooding is expected from Winsham to Axminster, including Chard Junction and Weycroft.
The latest update from EA said: “Heavy rain falling in the area over the last 24 hours has caused the River Axe to rise.
“River levels are starting to decrease in the upper catchment, but we expect them to remain higher than normal due to further showers which are forecast through to the weekend.
“Property flooding is expected at Chard Junction, Axe Farm, Coaxdon and Weycroft Cottages, Mosterton, Clapton, Tytherleigh and Broom, A358 crossing at Weycroft, B3165 Clapton, A3066 Mosterton, Axminster (Stoneybridge).
“Flooding to riverside property and highways at the B3165 at Mosterton and Clapton is expected imminently. Flood waters may be deep and fast-flowing in these areas.
“People in this area should consider taking action now and install any property flood resilience measures. Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings.
“We will be closely monitoring the situation throughout the night, and this message will be updated by 10am on Wednesday 3/1/24, or earlier if the situation changes.
“Flood warning area: riverside locations and roads between Winsham and Axminster, including Chard Junction, Coaxden Cottages, and Weycroft.”
