A WASSAILING event will take place at a Chard community orchard next week.
The event, presented by Chard Town Council and Chard Museum, will take place on Sunday, January 14 at the community orchard which can be accessed through the museum.
The event will start at 5.30pm and will feature by Chard’s Town Crier, guest musicians, and Morris dancing from the Enigma group.
Refreshments will also be available.
The event was held at the community orchard for the first time last year.
Presenting the first edition of the event, a spokesperson for Chard Town Council said: “There are lots of them [wassailing] happening in the West Country so it’s great to get a Wassail organised for Chard.
“You’re encouraged to bring pots, pans, or drums to make some noise and wake up the trees.
“It is recommended those that attend bring torches/lanterns to illuminate the orchard and add to the atmosphere.”
The ceremony aims “to wake fruit trees from their winter slumber and scare away evil spirits, ensuring a good harvest”.
