ON-CALL firefighters in Chard have shared a message to thank the town and its community as they attended nearly 100 incidents more compared to last year.
Crews said that the Chard area had 381 incidents this year as they shared a “snapshot of our year”.
On-call firefighters also thanked their families and employers.
Their message read: “As another year draws to a close we thought we would share a snapshot of our year.
“As it stands Chard has had 381 incidents this year. Compared to 288 in 2022. Nearly 100 more.
“The role of an on-call firefighter is truly unique in that there is a real sense of community spirit, which has and always will keep us going.
“A few big thank you as always, firstly to our employers who allow our firefighters to respond to incidents during working hours.
“To name a few Numatic International, Atom Fabs, Pmbl Batteries & Brecknell Willis. It really is appreciated.
“A massive thank you to our families. You really are part of the fire service family, putting up with all the continued disturbed family events, holding the fort at home while our firefighters respond to incidents.
“To all our families, you know who you are. You’re just as big of a part to the station as us firefighters.
“Last of all the thank you goes to all the team at Chard. An on-call firefighter can sacrifice quite a lot at times to be on-call, however, the reward is always worth that.
“Saving and protecting people in your own community is one great privilege and motivation, like no other.
“We wish all of our followers and the people of the Chard area, a happy and healthy 2024.”
