CHARD firefighters attended 27 incidents linked to floodwater in a week as heavy downpours hit the county.
Chard Fire Station also added their team attended 10 incidents yesterday, Thursday, December 7.
One of those incidents included vehicles trapped in floodwater in Chard Junction, Station Road.
A Chard Fire Station spokesperson said: “A busy start to the month for Chard crews.
“Having been alerted to 27 incidents in seven days. 10 incidents alone today [Thursday, December 7].
“Please take care and do not take risks driving through floodwater. As always, a massive thank you to our employers who allow our firefighters to leave their place of work to respond.
“There is no question that lives have been saved this month alone.
“So, thank you so much and the biggest thank you to all of our families, who constantly put up with disrupted family life/ events due to fire calls. We really do appreciate it.”
Yesterday (Thursday, December 7) several road closures are in place, and the A358 was closed at Donyatt while the A356 was closed from the A303 junction to Crewkerne.
The heavy rain also affected properties, especially at Chard Junction.
This morning (Friday, December 8), a section of the A303 that was closed due to flooding has reopened.
The lifted closure was the one affecting the road eastbound between the A358 Southfields Roundabout near Ilminster and the A3088 Cartgate Roundabout.
