CHARD Rugby Club has been gearing up for the upcoming season with increased fitness training.
The mens team recently spent a day at the beach doing some sand-based fitness routines as well as a friendly game of tug-of-war.
The squad has been back in training for a few weeks now as they gear up for the first match of the season on September 2.
In that first match they take on Wadebridge Camels at home to kick start the campaign in Regional 2 Tribute South West.
Until then, training will continue and the club have a few pre-season friendlies planned.
The Second XV at Chard Rugby Club also start their season on that same Saturday in September, they are away at Crewkerne.
This season coming, the Seconds will play in the Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South division.
In the Ladies section at the club, there has been an increase in numbers during the Summer.
Recently, the club held a Ladies Inner Warrior event and there was a very impressive turnout for that.
A spokesperson from the club said: "We had an impressive turnout at our Ladies Inner Warrior event for a day of fun, fitness, new friends and the return of a few familiar faces.
"Women's rugby is thriving at Chard RFC! Thanks to theproplife & Strength and Fitness with Jem for joining us!"
The Ladies section also has a lot of support from the local community and the club thanked the sponsors involved with this event.

The Chard Ladies start their campaign on Sunday, September 17 away from home against Wiveliscombe Women.
They will be playing in the Women's NC 3 South West (Central) division this year.
For the junior fans of rugby in the Chard area, the club also has a very special offer for them coming in September.
Chard Rugby Club are offering the opportunity of two free trial sessions to the youngsters in the local area wanting to give rugby a try.
The club said: "We are offering the awesome opportunity for two free trial sessions for youngsters in our area.
"A fun and safe environment to build confidence, improve fitness and make friends for life! First class facilities and excellent coaches at Star Scheme."
