THE King’s Head pub in Chard has won the Chard and Ilminster News Pub of the Year 2023 competition.
The pub, based on Church Street, won the competition thanks to the nominations of readers and residents in the area.
They could base their decisions on their pub's warm welcome, delicious menu, excellent service or friendly atmosphere.
Nominations were open until Saturday, May 6.
Manager Margaretta Timson said it was “fantastic” to win and added staff at the King’s Head will continue to “work hard and build upon it”.
She also said: “It’s fantastic, awesome. We didn’t expect that as we only took over a year ago and we have been working very hard to turn it around and it’s paying off.
“A few people were asking if there were any news about the competition.
“Winning the competition makes us feel good and we have to continue to work hard and build upon it and make it even better.
“We built a good relationship with our customers, we want the pub to be ‘the place to be’.
“A lot of people who didn’t come in now are coming in and this is down to us being a family-run pub and doing a lot for the community. We want to be a community pub that is not just about making money.”
