The closure will affect vehicles heading from Tesco towards Fore Street. The west to east lane will remain open.
Drivers will be diverted via Furnham Road and Victoria Avenue.
A spokesperson for Travel Somerset, the county council's roads information service, said: “The A30 East Street in Chard will be closed east to west tomorrow (Monday 30) for emergency works.
“Please use an alternative route if travelling in the area.”

Elsewhere, the A358 bypass near Ashill will shut between 9.30am and 3pm for three days from Monday while the council's highways team carries out “urgent works”.
Work to install 550 metres of drainage pipes and road gullies is ongoing on the A30 at Mangle Hill Cave between Chard and Crewkerne.
The road closed on Monday, January 23 and is expected to re-open in seven weeks.
