ICY weather and frosty conditions meant that most sport in the Chard and Ilminster area was postponed at the weekend.

That included fixtures for both Chard Town and Ilminster Town football clubs.

The two sides were due to take on Nailsea United and Mendip Broadwalk respectively. Those games will now be played at a later date, most likely in the New Year.

Attention quickly turns to the round of fixtures this coming weekend, but both sides will be keeping a close eye on Boxing Day as they are due to face off.

It will be the first time the two sides have met this season in league football. They did face off in a cup competition back in September, where Ilminster won 1-0.

The league may be a more important and hopefully more entertaining battle as both sides are in need of more points to climb up the table.

It has been a mixed season for both sides, as the pair have pulled out some incredible performances but have also both been on the receiving end of heavy defeats.

To start with Chard Town, they currently sit in 11th place in the Uhlsport Somerset County Premier Division.

After 15 league fixtures they have managed four wins, two draws and nine losses for a total of 14 points on the table.

Currently, they are on the back of a two game losing run, in which they have only managed to find the back of the net once.

Chard started the season strongly with a win at home and since then it has been an up and down campaign, often winning one game then losing the next.

The inconsistency has seen the side move up and down in the middle of the league table.

Their top scorer so far this season is Liam Cleal and Scott Wells-Burr, the pair both sit on three goals in the league.

Moving on to Ilminster Town, their season has been slow to get going but recent form suggests some form of improvement.

Currently, the Blues sit in 15th place, second bottom, of the league table.

Albeit they have played much less games than most other teams. After nine games they have three wins, two draws and four losses for 11 points.

Their worst run came in October where they lost four games in a row, including a 1-6 defeat at home to Middlezoy.

However since then there has been improvement, just a lack of games played.

Their top goalscorer this campaign is Taylor Jefferson, he has five goals in all competitions so far this season.

As already mentioned, they two are set to face off on Boxing Day in what will surely be a heated affair.

The game kicks off at 1pm at Zembard Lane on Monday, December 26.
