CHARD Carnival Committee has shared a message after the event took place last week, on Saturday, October 8.
Last year, the carnival took place without traditional carts, but this year was finally back to normal.
This year's carnival’s week started on Sunday, October 2, and finished last Saturday with its main, traditional procession, and a full photo gallery of the event can be found at this link.
The event raised £4287,97.
Today (Monday, October 10) the carnival committee has shared a message to thank all those involved.
The message from Jason Baker, chairman of Chard Carnival Committee, said: “I am extremely pleased with this year’s event, we have had a week of events including the quiz, beacon lighting, bingo, chess tournament, spot the wrong un, window dressing competition, the funfair, children’s carnival and the main procession which took place on Saturday evening.
“We had 68 entries into the carnival with a good variety of entries. The children’s carnival saw a good crowd and it is always great to watch all of the entries taking part.
“Our evening procession started on time at 19.30 and was led by Bournemouth Marching band, they were followed by perry street bikers club, Chard Fire engines, Devon truck show, and then all of the amazing floats and walkers that entertained us.

“I would like to thank everyone for entering Chard Carnival and for putting on a fantastic show for everyone, I would also like to thank all of the committee for their hard work all year around, the marshals who travelled from all parts of the county to help, the judges and emergency services that have help the event to run smoothly.
“It was great to see such a large number of entries back taking part in carnival we have had a large and fantastic crowd who were clapping and cheering the entries as they went by and have managed to collect £4287.97 from coins in the collecting lorries & tins, donations via the QR code and contactless payments on the day.”
