A NEW ice cream and milkshake parlour opened in Chard last week.
Gemma Emery and her husband Andrew, who own Emery Newsagents on Holyrood Street, opened an ice-cream parlour last Saturday (September 10) on the same premises.
Gemma and Andrew are in charge of the family-run business, founded in the early 80s, since 2011.
They noticed that Chard does not have a place “where you can buy a proper ice-cream”.
The ice cream parlour opened last week after refurbishing a room on their premises for six weeks.
The shop will have ice cream and milkshakes on sale, as well as hot drinks such as coffee and tea.
A selection of vegan ice creams will also be available and flavours will change regularly.
Gemma said: “We own both sides and last year I was running a pre-loved baby clothing shop.
“We were looking at what we could do to change because after Covid children’s clothing sales went down, and we thought Chard does not have an ice-cream parlour.
“We changed the room and refurbished it in under six weeks. We got a planning application for a new door at the front, so customers can come straight from the shop.
“We also make milkshakes, we have coffees, teas, and vegan ice-creams.
“I came back to work with my husband after having children, we have two kids, so I come here to work every day, and we have six members of staff.”
Emery Newsagents is based on Holyrood Street and is open seven days a week.
