SOUTH Petherton Carnival celebrated its 100th anniversary last weekend.
The carnival took place on Saturday, September 10, and also celebrated the life of Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday, September 8.
The carnival was also held to mark “her majesty’s legacy” and “celebrate her life”.
A social media message shared before the event read: “The 100th village carnival will go ahead.
“After much deliberation and consultation, we would like to announce that the carnival will be going ahead this year, Saturday 10th September 7:30pm.
“We have not taken this decision lightly and our thoughts and prayers are with the royal family at this time.
“Her dedication and service to this country are an inspiration to us and we intend to incorporate something to mark her majesty’s legacy and use the parade to celebrate her life.
“Thank you so much everyone for your overwhelming kind words of support.
“Bring hand-waving flags, wear red, white, and blue, but let’s celebrate the life of our dearly departed Queen.”
Entrants were asked to observe a two-minute silence and, at the end of the parade, the last float paused in the square and the national anthem was played.
South Petherton Carnival also raised £1028.78 for entries and local charities and organisations.
