ILMINSTER residents were invited to hear the Proclamation today (Monday, September 12), the official announcement of Her Majesty’s death, and acknowledgement of the commencement of the King’s new reign.
The Proclamation was read by Ilminster’s Town Crier, Mr Andrew Fox at 2pm today, Monday, September 12.
This was then followed by a reading by the Mayor of Ilminster, Councillor Leanne Taylor.
Cllr Leanne Taylor, Mayor of Ilminster, shared a message to pay tribute to the Queen.
She said: “The example of her duty, service, and devotion to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth was unparalleled her graciousness was unsurpassed.
“We have lived in a truly golden Elizabethan age, the likes of which we will never see again.
“Ilminster Town Council join with people around the world in mourning her loss.
“A book of condolence will be available for residents to sign at the Lady Chapel at the Minster in Ilminster.
“In addition, if any members of the public wish to lay flowers as a mark of respect they may also do so at the Lady Chapel.”
