A 48-PAGE souvenir booklet celebrating 100 years of Ilminster Carnival is now available.
The anniversary booklet, available in limited edition, features information on this year’s carnival and also includes articles from the Ilminster Carnival clubs and hundreds of photographs from the carnival’s long history.
Booklets are available from eight locations around Ilminster and organisers have included a collection pot alongside the booklets to collect donations.
Anyone interested can find the carnival’s centenary booklets at the following locations:
- Ilminster Home Hardware;
- Cafe Square;
- Monks Yard Café;
- Silver Street Dairy;
- Ilminster Library;
- Greenslade Taylor Hunt;
- Ilminster Hair & Beauty;
- Ilminster Arts Centre.
The suggested donation is £1.
Ilminster Carnival will take place on Saturday, October 1 at 7.15pm.
The children’s procession will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 1.45pm.
The Ilminster Carnival celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and the group said they have “lots planned to celebrate”.
The carnival is part of the South Somerset Federation of Carnivals which also consists of Wellington, Chard, and Taunton.
The procession of illuminated floats is part of an ancient tradition.
The floats can be up to 100 feet long and covered in thousands of light bulbs.
