I represent Chard South, this covers Everything on the Guildhall side of the A30, which includes the district council wards of Holyrood, Jocelyn and Tatworth, Forton.
I am keen to keep in touch with you both via this monthly column and my county council surgery in the Guildhall which is held on the first Saturday of the month 10am until 12pm and I will also be spending time knocking on doors and delivering regular newsletters to help keep you up to date with projects, news, and issues about your local area.
I have been working on getting the footpath between Chard & Tatworth cleared as this has been neglected for many years, this has taken longer than I would have liked, unfortunately, the highways department like many others is overrun with work and has a backlog of work.
The order for this work was placed a few weeks ago and I am pleased to say that contractors should be on site this week to start clearing the footpath.
This has been thanks to the hard work of both the district councillors and the parish who have also been working on this prior to the election.
I have received lots of questions about the Stringfellow plane will it return and where will it go, I am pleased to say that it is undergoing some refurbishment works to return it to its former glory, it will then be returned to its original home. I am hoping that this should now be completed within the next couple of weeks
It was an honour to be at the opening of the refurbished telephone box at the junction of Crowshute link Ophelia a local brownie approached me last year with an idea to convert the disused telephone box into a community book swop. I am pleased that this is now completed and is being used regularly.
One of my roles on the county council is to be a member of the children’s and family’s scrutiny committee, we have received an excellent briefing from officers and held our first meeting where we spoke about school places and children in care.
The County Council are desperately short of foster placements, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to contact the county council if you are interested in fostering or know of someone who may be interested, officers will be able to give you all of the information that you need.
