ON the last day of half-term, children at Tatworth Primary School held a Jubilee Bonnet and Hat Parade as part of their Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
They had been inspired after the Headteacher, had shared a photo of herself wearing her own creation at the Silver Jubilee in 1977.
The children’s bonnets and hats were very creative, with many of the children painting and decorating their hats with items such as a model of a traditional cream tea; red, white, and blue flowers; ribbons and flags, and models of the Queen and her corgis.
The school was delighted that parents/carers came onto the school field and joined in, waving and clapping, as the parade took place.
A child at the school said: “I made my hat from a cereal box and covered it with flags.
“The parade was fun as we walked around waving at the audience.”
Later in the day, judging of the bonnets/hats took place in school, and, excitingly, the winner has been asked to take part in the lighting of the Jubilee beacon at Tatworth Playing Fields on Thursday, June 2.
The school would like to thank Tim Eggins, Tatworth, and Forton Parish Council and Coordinator for Carbon Neutral Chard and leader of Sustainable Chard for offering this fantastic opportunity to one of our children.
Here is a selection of photos from the event.
