A MAN from Chard has just become the over 45 masters IBFA (International Bodybuilding and Fitness Association) British champion.
Chris Williams, 47, who has been bodybuilding for just over four years, went to the IBFA British finals in Newcastle last weekend.
And the weekend before he was in Mülheim in Germany, competing in the GB PRO/AM competition, where he came second in the over 40s masters.
Before becoming a bodybuilder, Chris did a lot of strongman training. After he tore both biceps, he had to change up his training routine - and then he discovered bodybuilding.
"I decided to slim down and try a bodybuilding competition to raise money for Action for Children," said Chris, who works at Chris' Tat Shack in Axminster.
"I chose Action for Children as I wanted to give something back to kids who had a rough start in life.
"I didn't have the best upbringing either, and there are plenty of other unfortunate children in this country.
"I really like to give back, the bodybuilding community is like a big family, it is not bitchy – we all try to help each other, it is a really good atmosphere.
"Bodybuilding has been a hell of a journey, but I do with I had started younger. But I have been very very lucky - I have some good sponsors behind me.
"I chose to be Chris Hulk Williams as a bodybuilder, as the Hulk was something my children can relate to. Everytime I do a routine it is Hulk related!"
Chris trains at both Oliver Joseph gym in Axminster and Mawfit in Ilminster.
He has said that next year, he is planning to have a year off - as he has spent the past three years eating 'very clean'.
"I am up at 6.30am, and am in the gym at 7am," he added.
"I eat every two and a half hours. Luckily, my customers at work are very understanding, and I tend to only work four hours a day - as by the afternoon I am so tired.
"I would like to say thank you to everyone who has got behind me, to the gyms where I train, and my family, and to every who waves when my purple and green audi drives past!"
