A CLASSIC car tour from Chard to Lands End took place earlier this month.
The Windwhistle Motor Club, established in 1995, were set to celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2020, but had to postpone the celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
And so, they rescheduled their event, now renamed ‘The Tour that Didn’t Tour, Tour’, for October 2021.
The weekend began at Barleymows Farm Shop in Chard, with Howard West, a recognisable face in motorsport, starting the tour.
The motor club members drove through Devon and Cornwall, eventually ending up at Lands End - 250 miles later.
David Richards CBE (chairman of Motorsport UK, founder of Prodrive, ex Formula One boss, and ex Aston Martin chairman) presented awards to the following participants:
- Pre-1950 - Bill Bennett with his MG NA ‘The Rocket’
- 1950’s & 60’s – Daimler SP250 of David Robinson
- 1970’s – Sunbeam Imp Sport of Neal Vile
- 1980’s - AC Cobra Rep of Jerry Shepperd
- Post 1990 – Ford Focus RS of Dick Bolt
- So Far, So Good Trophy – TVR Chimaera of Peter Young
- Spirit of the Event – Triumph Spitfire of Mulberry Threlfall
- Judges Choice – Morgan Plus Four of Rob Pring
The motor club collected funds for the RNLI during the weekend, helping them to raise funds for the new lifeboat station in Minehead.
