UPDATE: Man killed in crash on A303 near Podimore roundabout
A CAR burst into flames after hitting a tree during a crash on a busy Someret road.
The incident, at around 9.20am, saw the vehicle hit a tree in the central reservation of the A303 near the Podimore roundabout.
Fire crews from Yeovil, Martock and Somerton are at the scene.
"The vehicle involved collided with the tree in the central reservation and has caught fire," said a spokesperson for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
"There is one hose reel jet, one foam jet and two breathing apparatus in use."
National Highways says the road is closed in both directions.
"A303 both directions, Ilchester to Podimore is now being closed due to severity of the incident and police investigations," a spokesperson said.
"Diversions will be in place but traffic is now building in the area. Please consider alternative routes."
Avon and Somerset police have confirmed they are also at the scene.
The incident happened at 'about 9.20am', a spokesperson said.
