FIRE crews were sent to tackle a barn fire late last night (August 30).
Crews from Yeovil, Martock and Wincanton were sent to the scene, in Ilchester, at just before 10.30pm.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "On arrival, the incident commander confirmed a five-bay barn, measuring 25m by 15m containing approx 10 tonnes of hay, (was) well alight.
"Crews began to extinguish the fire using two 45mm jets and one compressed air foam jet.
"Crews removed fertiliser and machinery from the barn to ensure they didn't become involved in fire."
At just after midnight, one crew was left at the scene with a watching brief allowing the remaining hay to burn under supervision in a controlled manner, they added.
