THE A303 in Somerset was closed overnight after a crash which left one person dead.
Police were called to the incident on the A303, which involved a van and a car, at around 9.30pm.
It is understood the crash involved a black Isuzu Rodeo pick-up in collision with a red Mazda 6, which had broken down.
The man in the pick-up was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. While he has not yet been formally identified, his next of kin have been made aware and will be supported by a family liaison officer.
The occupants of the Mazda were treated by ambulance crews at the roadside.
The road remained closed in both directions until around 9am this morning, meaning commuters faced diversions as they returned after the bank holiday weekend.
National Highways South West said the closure was set to remain in place 'for many hours', with drivers being diverted.
"We’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw either vehicle in the moments beforehand, especially if they have dashcam footage," said a police spokesperson.
