SOMERSET residents have just over a month to have their say on plans for up to 100 new homes in a village near Chard.
The Crossman Group is carrying out a consultation on proposals for a new development planned for the eastern side of the B3167 Perry Street in Tatworth, a stone’s throw from the Devon and Dorset borders.
The company intends to deliver a mixture of homes and bungalows on the site, as well as providing a children’s play area and improvements to the local road network.
A formal planning application will be submitted to South Somerset District Council in the autumn once the consultation period has ended.
Perry Street runs around the southern edge of Tatworth, providing a valuable diversionary route between the A358 to Axminster and the A30 to Crewkerne when both roads through Chard town centre are congested.
The site lies on the 30 bus route between Taunton and Axminster via Chard, and is a short walk from the village’s main shop, the McColl’s newsagents.
Under the proposals published on Crossman’s website, up to 100 new homes will be delivered on the site between Perry Street and Factory Lane, not far from the former Chard Junction railway station.
A spokesman said: “We are bringing forward proposals for residential development on Perry Street in Tatworth.
“The proposals will provide up to 100 dwellings, consisting of bungalows, affordable housing, self-build plots and also community facilities, including a children’s play area and public open space.”
Access to the site will be from a new roundabout at the western end, which will replace the existing junction between Perry Street, Roman Road and School Lane.
The site is not included in the council’s Local Plan, which is currently under review.
The consultation will be open on the company’s website between August 20 and September 13. For more information visit www.crossmangroup.co.uk/perrystreet.
