A CARNIVAL is set to go ahead in a Somerset town this year - but with a slight difference.
Chard Carnival Committee have announced they will be going ahead with the carnival week in August, with a Celebration of Carnival Parade.
This parade will take a shorter route, and will look different to previous years.
As carnival clubs have not been able to fundraise or build, they will be dusting of old costumes and props, updating them or even making new ones.
The week will begin on Monday, October 4, featuring the ‘spot the wrong-un’ and shop window dressing competitions.
It will finish on carnival day - Saturday, October 9 - with daytime entertainment and the carnival at 7pm.
Chairman, Jason Baker, said: “We have already started working hard to organise this event, obviously working with local authorities and within government guidelines, to ensure we can deliver the most spectacular event we are able to.
“We look forward to working with the Carnival Clubs, Majorette troupes and all performers, and hope they will support us as well.”
The Carnival Committee will also be collecting and fundraising for groups and charities.
