A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said seven fire engines were involved in tackling the blaze.
"We have seven appliances at Hill Barton Business Park in Clyst St Mary dealing with a fire that started in a shredder and has spread to a woodpile.
"There are large plumes of smoke so local residents may wish to close their windows.
"We are working with site staff to make fire breaks, and fighting the fire with compressed air foam."
