A CHARITY is appealing for 'bucks for ducks' to help birds this summer.
Fearne Animal Sanctuary, at Wambrook near Chard, needs to rebuild a duck pond at the centre.
"Our ducks need your bucks this summer," said a spokesperson. "Their pond is falling apart, many are getting on in age and need new ramps so they can get in and out of the water and we must protect them from the threat of bird flu."
The appeal is seeking funds to upgrade the pond with improved access – ideal for those with mobility problems, as well as installing a water treatment system, to plant the area to provide shade and buy a structure to keep the ducks separate from wild birds during avian influenza season.
"People can donate through all the usual channels but to raise additional funds we are auctioning a dozen toy ducks each with a prize written underneath," the spokesperson added.
"Prizes range from a money can’t buy experience with the ducks, a family annual pass to the sanctuary to a cuddly duck."
To donate, and to take part in the auction, log on to www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org.
