THE crowning of this year's Ilminster Carnival Princess, Emma Bambury, prompted this flashback to 1964.
Back then, 17-year-old Glenys Yarde (now Whaites) was carnival queen.
She is pictured at the Recreation Ground, with the old pavilion in the background, being crowned by Katie Boyle, and, from left, attendants Wendy Morgan, Lynette Shapland, Doreen Webber, and Shirley Saunders.
Mrs Whaites, who raised £105 to become carnival queen, said she wasn't sure of the name of the girl in the foreground.
