HISTORY came alive for schoolchildren visiting Barrington Court today when they met a well-known historical figure.
Pupils from St Mary and St Peter’s Primary School, in Barrington and Ilton, and Shepton Beauchamp Primary School descended on the National Trust property for a King Henry VIII day.
Professional Henry VIII look-a-like Mike Farley talked to the eager youngsters about life in Tudor times, explaining everything from food and drink to grisly torture devices.
The children had the chance to interview the sovereign himself and designed their own coat of arms before trying their hand at a spot of jousting.
Tamsin Hennah, from Barrington Court, said: “Barrington Court is a Tudor manor house so it’s the perfect setting for a Tudor king.
“Being in a historical building helps bring the children back to that period and makes learning more enjoyable for them.”
Barrington teacher Amanda Downing said: “The children had a great day - they especially loved hearing all the gruesome details.”
