A NEW recycling centre in Chard will be open to the public from next week.

The site in Beeching Close – which will be open to residents from Tuesday, January 12 - will bring a state-of-the-art recycling facility to the town and has been built with near zero waste.

Rubble and other materials reclaimed from the treatment works that previously occupied the site were used as part of the building project or have been recycled.

An official opening ceremony will take place at the site on Friday when a local student will be asked to cut the traditional ribbon and invited dignitaries will be given a tour of the facility.

Guests will include Chard Mayor Cllr Jill Shortland, along with town, district and county councillors; senior staff from Somerset Waste Partnership and site operators Viridor.
