A FLOOD alert for South Somerset Rivers, Upper Reaches was issued tonight (Tuesday, November 26) at 8.05pm, stating that "flooding is possible - be prepared". 

Rainfall is forecast this evening, and through the early hours of Wednesday morning. 

River levels are expected to rise as a result and consequently flooding of property, roads and low lying land is possible - especially as it is so soon after Storm Bert has battered Somerset.

Other flood warnings including of the River Axe are also in place across Somerset.

Areas most at risk include roads at Ashford Mill, Donyatt, Isle Brewers, Fivehead, the Norton sub Hambdon to Stratton road, the A356 and the B3165 at Chiselborough and the B3168 at Ilford Bridges. 

The lower River Parett is forecast to be bankfull and overtopping could occur.

A spokesperson said: "we are checking rivers for blockages and monitoring rainfall and river levels."

The authorities recommend considering acting on your flood plan if you have one and monitoring local water levels and weather conditions.
