WIDESPREAD disruption is being reported on Somerset’s railway network today (Sunday, November 24, 2024), as Storm Bert causes trains to be cancelled and trees to block the lines.
A fallen tree at Yeovil Pen Mill has blocked all services between Westbury and Weymouth, with replacement transport services being organised for affected passengers. Roads are also badly affected by the storm.
There has also been a fallen tree between Reading and Basingstoke, which means significant disruption for those passengers travelling to and from London. Network Rail will clear the tree, with rail replacement buses available for affected passengers.
Journey times will be longer between Salisbury and Exeter on South Western Railway services, affecting stations in between. This is due speed restrictions owing to Storm Bert.
In addition, services between Exeter St. Davids and London Waterloo will start to run between Basingstoke and London Waterloo only. These services will be affected by the earlier fallen tree.
