ADAM Dance, the MP for Yeovil, and the Liberal Democrats party have said they will “hold the Government’s feet to the fire”, in response to yesterday’s Budget.
The Liberal Democrats have said the extra funding for the NHS in the Budget must now bring results for local residents, ensuring there are more GP and dentist appointments as well as further support to cut cancer care wait times – especially in Yeovil Hospital.
They also added that social care still remains an issue that needs to be addressed fully by the Government.
Adam Dance MP said: "I am pleased to see that there has been an allocation of funds for social care in the Budget but of course this is a drop in the ocean. Meeting the care needs of residents in Somerset needs a substantial increase in resources, both money and people.
"The Liberal Democrats have been calling for urgent cross-party talks on social care; fixing social care will be crucial to reducing the pressure on our local health services.
“We need this Government to deliver for our health and social care services and we believe this is best done by working together. We do not want to see the can kicked down the road as has been done in the past; action is needed now."
