Adam Dance, MP for Yeovil, visited Perrott Hill Prep School to meet staff and pupils.
The day kicked off with fish and chips in the dining hall, where the politician chatted with Year 8 pupils who stood as candidates in the school's mock election in June.
He then observed a debate where the Year 8 pupils discussed whether the monarchy should be abolished.
The MP spoke about his role and answered questions from the students.
The pupils were curious about life in Parliament and asked questions such as: "What do you think of your fellow politicians?" and "What was the first thing you did after being elected?"
Daisie, a Year 8 pupil who was acting as 'head for the day' after winning a school election at the end of last year, said: "Adam was very easy to talk to."
A spokesperson for the school said: "We second that.
"It was a very interesting visit for everyone concerned, and we hope to welcome Adam back to Perrott Hill again soon."
