A MAN who smashed a pint glass over the head of another male during an incident in a Yeovil town centre pub then kicked out at another man who went to intervene.
When police were called to the scene at the Butchers Arms on Hendford, Christopher Johnstone was in such a drunken rage that he kicked one of the officers in the leg and spat straight in the mouth of another while they tried to restrain him.
When he was later interviewed he said he absolutely no recollection of the events due to the level of his intoxication, Somerset Magistrates were told.
Johnstone, 41, of Folly Fields, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to assaulting Graham Oglesby and Raymond Gee causing them actual bodily harm during the incident on February 27 this year.
He also admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment alarm or distress and two counts of assaulting police officers by beating.
Andrew Meadows, prosecuting, said the offence occurred during the evening while the defendant was sat with a group of people in the darts area of the pub.
An altercation broke out during which Johnstone picked up a pint glass and smashed it over the back of the head of Mr Oglesby causing a cut to his head.
“He was restrained by the other witnesses until the police arrived and kicked Mr Gee to the chest which knocked him over and Johnstone then kicked him to the face while he was trying to restrain his legs,” he said.
“He was shouting abuse to others around him and the defendant kicked out again when being arrested and kicked one of the officers in the leg. He then spat towards a second one in the face and it landed right in his mouth.”
During interview Johnstone admitted the offences but said he had no recollection of what he had done due to how much he had drunk.
The magistrates adjourned the case until December 3 for the Probation Service to prepare a pre-sentence report and released him on unconditional bail.
