A MAN who caused a scene at Yeovil Hospital after being taken there by police, threatened to “punch the f***” out of the officers.
Andrew Spear was arrested following an unrelated incident in Yeovil and was taken to hospital where he became emotional and said he had taken an overdose of drink and drugs.
The situation deteriorated and he began shouting and swearing at other members of the public inside the hospital before making threats to the police.
Spear, 35, of Hilcrest Road, Yeovil, admitted using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress on June 12 when he appeared before Somerset Magistrates.
Prosecutor Genna Morgan said that police took Spear to the hospital after concerns for his welfare and on arrival he was emotional and said he had taken an overdoes of alcohol and cocaine.
“He was verbally abusive and said he wanted to be left alone and started swearing,” she said.
“He was warned on several occasions to stop as it was very busy and other members of the public were there.”
Spear then shouted: “Touch my arm again and I’ll punch the f*** out of you guys.” Following medical assessment he was released from hospital.
Defending himself, Spear said he had no recollection of the evening saying he was suffering from a mental breakdown and was very intoxicated and that was not how he usually behaved.
The magistrates told Spear the incident had been very unpleasant for staff and other people who were in the hospital and fined him £120 with £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
