Adam Dance MP is welcoming progress regarding the New Medium Helicopter (NMH) contract.
He has been in active discussions with the Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry, the Rt Hon Maria Eagle MP, about the contract.
The minister confirmed that the bid from Yeovil-based Leonardo UK is the only one moving forward in the evaluation process.
The bid will be examined to ensure it meets the minimum criteria and represents value for money.
Ms Eagle made it clear that the Strategic Defence Review will not delay proceedings, a move supported by Mr Dance.
Mr Dance, who has been a vocal proponent of the social and industrial benefits of the Leonardo bid, said: "This has been a long time coming, but I am delighted that the new government is moving in the right direction on this.
"I am confident that Leonardo’s bid not only meets the necessary criteria but also offers significant value to both our defence industry and the wider community in Yeovil and beyond."
The NMH procurement process will continue through 2025, with an expected contract award pending government approval.
Mr Dance plans to keep the public informed of any significant updates as the evaluation and negotiation phases move forward.
