ADAM Dance MP marked the official opening of the new Single-Site Logistics Hub at Leonardo in Yeovil on Wednesday evening, further strengthening the company’s position as a cornerstone of the local economy and an integral part of the UK's defence industry.
The hub represents a significant investment in both the company’s future and the broader prosperity of the region.
Speaking at the event, MP Dance expressed his gratitude to Leonardo for inviting him to be part of the milestone occasion.
He said: "It was an honour to mark the opening of the new Single-Site Logistics Hub at Leonardo. A big thank you to Leonardo for inviting me."
"It was also fantastic to hear of the significant investment in the company's future, which is so important for the economy in Somerset."
Leonardo has long been a key player in the aerospace and defence sectors, and its continuing commitment to expanding its operations in Yeovil is seen as a major vote of confidence in the town.
The creation of this new hub enhances the company’s capacity to manage and distribute parts and equipment for its cutting-edge helicopters, making Yeovil a crucial site in Leonardo’s global operations.
This opening comes at a critical time as Leonardo is currently the only bidder for the UK’s New Medium Helicopter (NMH) contract, a project of great strategic importance to the Ministry of Defence.
Should Leonardo secure the contract, it will cement Yeovil’s status as the UK’s helicopter hub, safeguarding and creating jobs, driving further investment, and ensuring the long-term vitality of the local economy.
Adam Dance MP has been a strong advocate for the helicopter contract to be awarded to Yeovil.
He added: "Securing this contract would be a major victory for Yeovil and the surrounding areas, boosting jobs and ensuring that our local economy continues to thrive.
“Leonardo is a world leader in helicopter technology, and awarding them this contract would ensure the UK’s defence needs are met by British engineering expertise.
“I have written to the Minister asking for a meeting to see what can be done to speed up the decision."
With Leonardo’s continuous investment and the potential for the NMH contract, Yeovil stands poised to play an even larger role in the UK’s defence infrastructure, contributing not only to national security but also to the well-being of local communities.
