THE sign that hung at Yeovil's Pittard factory reception for decades welcoming workers and guests is being auctioned off.
Anyone who visited Pittard's factory, on Sherborne Road, is likely to recognise this carved wood emblem reading 'Established 1840'.
The sign, Lot 492, is being auctioned by Charterhouse in Sherborne as part of its Automobilia, Car Mascot, and Enamel Sign Auction on September 25, which can be viewed online, where you can also live bid.
It is expected to fetch an estimated price of £2,500-3,000.
The famous glove makers, founded in 1826, with customers including the Royal family and emergency services, ceased trading in September 2023.
Pittard employed 150 staff in the UK and 900 staff in Ethiopia, the "majority" of which were made redundant after the 197-year-old company failed to find a buyer.
Gavin Miller, of Community Union's national officer for light industries, said at the time: "The news of liquidation will come as a hammer blow to the workforce at Pittards, for the town of Yeovil and the wider county of Somerset which has been so closely associated with glove making and leather manufacturing over the course of centuries."
