TWO people had to be freed from their vehicles following a serious crash between a car and a van on the A303 yesterday.
At around 3.40pm on August 15, the police, ambulance and the fire service from Yeovil, Ilminster and Martock were called to the A303 Seavington St Mary following what the police called a 'very serious accident'.
The A303 from Southfields roundabout to Hayes End Roundabout was closed for around ten hours after the accident, finally re-opening at around 2am this morning (August 16), according to National Highways on Twitter.
The police said at the time the crash involved a car and a van and they expected the road to be closed for several hours and the crash involved one car and a van. They were urging people to avoid the area which was causing congestion through Ilminster town centre and around Southfields.

Fire control received multiple calls for a road traffic collision on the A303 eastbound between Southfield and South Petherton.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "Three fire engines from Ilminster, Yeovil and Martock attended the incident alongside an officer.
"We used hydraulic gear and small tools to release 2 casualties and crew continue to work with Police and Ambulance on scene."
