Ham Hill Country Park is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its ever-popular dog show which will be held next month.
Taking place on Sunday August 11 at Ham Hill Country Park, popular with dog walkers from the local area and way beyond, Ham Hill’s fun dog show is a day to celebrate fenines.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes, pedigrees and crossbreeds are welcome to join the show. Last year over 400 visitors visited as whole families came with their dogs to share a special day.
The show will raise funds for local charity The Friends of Ham Hill, a team of dedicated local people who support education, conservation, improvement, and community activities at Ham Hill.
Gates open at 10am and the show starts at 10.30 am. Entry is £1.50 per dog per class which is payable on entry to the show ring.
Don't forget poo bags as there are no litter bins at Ham Hill, so please come prepared to take your litter home with you and recycle what you can.
Free onsite parking. Please note this event is in a field and the terrain may be uneven. A wheelchair-accessible toilet is available.
Organisers of the show are appealing for sponsorship for some classes. Costing £30, local businesses, services or families are welcome. All class sponsors will be printed in the programme and acknowledged over the PA system at the start of each class.
To become a sponsor or can help with doggy prizes in goody bags email Hamhilldogshow@gmail.com. All proceeds will go to The Friends of Ham Hill.
Event organiser Donna McNeill said: “As ever, we are very excited to be hosting the Ham Hill dog show. It is always such a joyous day that it is full of fun and love for dogs. When we started this event in 2014, we had no idea of the support we would receive from the local community or how popular it would be. Now an established highlight in the local calendar, we are back for our 10th Anniversary year and determined to do it justice! We’re looking forward to welcoming new faces as well as our ever-increasing band of regulars, who always make us smile. It’s great to see so many proud owners all keen to show off their dogs’ talents, character, beauty, quirks and charm!”
“Whether you regularly walk your dog at Ham Hill or you’re discovering it for the first time, you and your dog are welcome to come along to just enjoy the delights of this beautiful historic site, participate in some of the twelve fun classes, or have a go at the ‘Ham Hill Challenge’ (a series of three events designed to be fun for you and your dog). You can also watch Yeovil Agility Club in action, browse the attending stalls and enjoy al-fresco refreshments.”
Councillor Federica Smith Roberts, lead member for communities, housing and culture “Ham Hill dog show is a fantastic way for families to enjoy the outdoors, celebrate their dogs, have fun, and socialise with other dogs and owners. It’s also a great opportunity for Somerset Council to promote responsible dog walking at this important Iron Age hill fort site. Special thanks go to our volunteer organisers Donna and Sarah, whose dedication and hard work make this event possible every year. Their efforts raise valuable funds for the Friends of Ham Hill, helping preserve and enhance this much-loved place.”
