A West Country cheese brand has taken home a Gold Award at the International Cheese Awards 2024.
Ilchester was crowned the winner of the Best New Dairy Product category at the Staffordshire-based ceremony.
The cheese makers were awarded for their inventive 'Dirty Toppers Fragrant and Mild Katsu Curry' cheese which launched in May of this year.
The Dirty Toppers - which are a new innovation in cheese experiences - bring the popular culinary trend of loaded fries, wedges and nachos into the home.
The rapidly melting cheddar is said to melt nicely on top of loaded fries, nachos, pasta, jacket potatoes, burgers and garlic bread.
Ilchester chose the fragrant and mild katsu curry due to the popularity of katsu in UK cuisine, as Brits celebrate food from around the world.
Ilchester's master blenders mixed and matched the curry's sweet and rich mix with the nation's favourite cheese - cheddar.
The brand's Mexicana Cheese also won a Silver Award for Best Sandwich Cheese Product.
Ffion Davies, senior brand manager for Ilchester and Mexicana, said: "We are over the moon to scoop the new product award for the Dirty Toppers; we only launched them in May so we couldn't be happier."
