LANDLORDS of The Brewers Arms in South Petherton, Duncan, Nicki and Ali say they are 'celebrating' after being crowned Chard and Ilminster News Pub of the Year for 2024.

The Public House at 18 St James's Street is a seventeenth-century, family-run, free house at the centre of the Hamstone village.

Duncan told the Chard and Ilminster News: "We were very surprised when the news came in but it is nice to be recognised in this way by our local paper.

"It's our first time winning this award and we have proudly displayed the certificate at the end of the bar already, so everyone can see it.

"The Brewers Arms prides itself on being a free house. We have a reputation for always serving quality real ales from all corners of the British Isles.

"Our reputation has been further ratified by being awarded Somerset CAMRA Pub of the Year three times. We’ve been here a long time and we are proud to have served over 3,000 different ales over our bars over that time."

The pub has also been recognised in a number of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) awards in 2023 and 2024 which are proudly displayed on a wall in the pub.

The pub is open six days a week, closed on Monday's offering lunch and dinner time meals and a selection of local ales and beers, including Otter Brewery, based in Ottery St Mary in Devon.

The Brewers Arms holds a lot of charity events for the town, including collections for charities including fundraising for the South Petherton Carnival.

Duncan added: "We like to help out in the community in anyway we can, whether that be locals taking part in charity events or raising money for the local carnival circuit."
