Tytherleigh Vehicle Electrics (TVE) has been announced as a finalist for the 2024 Independent Garage Association awards.
The garage on Chard Business Park Jarman Way is a finalist in the business improvement category of the IGA's Big Awards. An award ceremony takes place on September 20 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole where the winners will be announced.
TVE Chard is one of four finalists across the UK in the finals to win an award for their category.
The Independent Garage Association is the governing body for garages across the UK, and they run the British Independent Garage of the Year Awards every year which recognises garages, industry suppliers and standout stars from the UK in award categories highlighting all aspects of running a successful garage business.
The Business Improvement Award is designed to recognise an independent garage that has made outstanding advancements over the past year. This award celebrates those who have demonstrated exceptional growth and innovation by implementing strategic improvements in various aspects of their business operations. Whether through comprehensive staff training, introducing new services or initiatives, or enhancing customer service, this award honours the garage that has shown significant progress and commitment to excellence.
This award celebrates the hard work and dedication of an independent garage that has not only strived for improvement but has also achieved remarkable success in growing and enhancing their business.
Tytherleigh started in Chard in 1980, and Ed Cousins took over running the business in 2022 from the previous owners and offers car repair and servicing for all vehicle types. This is the first time the business has been nominated for an IGA award. Ed nominated the garage
The business offers car servicing and mechanical on all types of vehicles, including Electric Vehicle repair and servicing.
Ed Cousins, owner of TVE said: "We are a one-stop shop for all vehicle repairs in the Chard area. I took over the business in 2022, and I have a varied career in mechanics, I started off as an apprentice for Nissan, and one Apprentice of the Year and Retailer of the Year, I then worked for Renault in Wellington, where we won a customer excellence award.
"It is great to have the recognition by the governing body for garages across the UK in their awards scheme. It shows that the hard work made by our team is recongised and it would be great to win.
"I nominated us for the award this year, and we heard that we have made it into the final soon after. We then had a member of the IGA team come to visit, who spent three hours with us evaluating all aspects of the business and speaking to our team."
