AN ACTOR from Cricket St Thomas features in an award-winning movie that made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Chocolate Club was screened at the Festival De Palais. Director Deborah Hadfield, stars Josh Taylor from Cricket St Thomas and many other cast & crew members attended the festival to short the movie made in Cornwall.
The film is making an international splash picking up more than 50 awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Deborah Hadfield, Best Screenplay and Best Actress awards for Cornish actress Kate Edney, Best Actor awards for leading man Josh Taylor.
Leading man Josh Taylor, who can currently be seen in Amazon Prime’s Alex Rider series, said he was “thrilled” to have won the Best Actor award. He said: “It was wonderful to film in such a stunning part of the UK and the award is the icing on the cake.”
The film has also been nominated for honours in other festivals across the globe, including six nominations at the Madrid International Film Festival.
Cornish actress Kate Edney is up for Best Actress in the Spanish festival. It’s the latest film from the award winning Queen Bee Films, which was founded by TV presenter
Deborah Hadfield. The director’s last film We Two Together picked up more than 50 awards. She said: “It’s a thrill to share the movie with an international audience at the world’s most prestigious film festival.
The movie received rave reviews, including a judge from the Golden Globes who attended the screening. She said the film made her cry and it was an important movie that needed to be seen all over the world.”
The festive romantic comedy was shot on location in Cornwall in the winter of 2023. Deborah says: “Cornwall has a special place in my heart and it was truly magical to film in such a spectacular location.”
The film is a tribute to her twin brother Garry, who died suddenly in 2021. The movie features Cornish locations, such as Fistral Beach, Newquay, Watergate Bay and Lusty Glaze Beach.
Another location which is showcased is Adam Handling’s Ugly Butterfly restaurant at Carbis Bay.
The movie will screen for cast, crew and supporters at the Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay on Friday, June 21st.
