A Funeral Directors in Crewkerne has moved to the old Lloyd’s Bank Building in 37, Market Square Crewkerne.
Stoodley & Son of Crewkerne has been supporting families for over 100 years but had outgrown its current premises.
The owners thought the Lloyd’s Bank building was an iconic presence in the High Street and wanted to restore it from its Georgian glory to a beautiful funeral home for the families they are privileged to look after.
The project has taken nearly a year due to a few unexpected challenges on the way. The original bank safes and counter had to be removed as well as miles of telephone cables and trunking, and a new roof which has been traditionally re-leaded to look how it was when it was built in 1817.
Owner Tracey Warren said: "We have been extremely lucky to have worked alongside a brilliant team of local skilled craftsmen and women that have brought the building back to its former glory.
"The décor has been chosen to provide a calming, homely environment and less like an office."
A few of the original bank features has been retained and the bank has been restored in a sympathetic way but, also creating a modern funeral home fit for the 21st century.
A function room is also available which can seat up to 40 people for a wake or celebration of life service.
The room is accessed by a separate front entrance and leads upstairs to a room overlooking the town square.
Owner Tracey Warren said: "We are a small team with a very big heart and a passion for giving our families, and their loved ones a send off they can be proud of.
"From our first meeting we will offer a warm smile and a friendly face to put you at your ease, and we will have a chat over a cup of tea, either in our new office in Crewkerne, our branch in South Petherton or at your home, and discuss everything in an open, honest and sensitive way.
"Our funeral arrangements are all about us getting to know all about you and your loved one and you getting to know about us."
Funeral Director Colin Roberts said: "We work alongside you in a comfortable and supportive relationship, offering each family our undivided attention with no time restrictions. Whether the families wishes are simple or elaborate, each and every funeral is of equal importance to us and we strive to provide a superior level of affordable service to every family. We ensure each life is remembered in a truly unique way."
