FIREARM ammunition “still capable of being fired” have been found at a recycling centre.
Police said they were called to attend reports of firearm ammunition disposed in one of the large containers at Yeovil Recycling Centre on Saturday afternoon (May 25).
A spokesperson said: “On Saturday, May 25 Yeovil NPT were called to attend the Yeovil Recycling Centre, where a quantity of firearm ammunition had been disposed of in one of the large recycling containers.
“Whilst several items were found to be inert, an alarming quantity were found to still be live and capable of being fired.
“These items have been seized and taken to a police station where they will be safely disposed of.
“The improper disposal of ammunition can present a significant risk to people.
"If you find yourself in a situation where you need to dispose of live ammunition, please follow the below guidance:
“1. Hand the ammunition to a registered firearms dealer.
“2. Provide it to another person who is an authorised firearm certificate holder.
“3. Surrender the ammunition to your local police station.
“If you believe you have found ammunition, but you are uncertain on whether it is safe to move it or not, please call 101 and a call handler will advise you on what to do."
