A SOMERET farmer is set to cycle 1,000 miles - alongside a forage harvester - to raise money for charity.
Nick Bragg, of Frogmary Green Farm in South Petherton, is embarking on the challenge with a Krone BiG X forager to raise funds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI).
He is planning to start at the Northumberland County Show on May 26, travelling via the Suffolk Show on May 30 and 31, and finishing at the Royal Cornwall Show on June 5.
Nick will stop at several farm shops and Krone dealerships, to gather support and raise awareness of RABI's work.
“In 2019 I cycled 3,000 miles across Canada for the charity, so I was ready for the next challenge," he said.
"Lots of people have cycled from John O’Groats to Lands End, so I wanted to go one step further by using the forager to symbolise the agricultural community’s strength and resilience.
“With the support of Krone, we designed the event to engage a wide audience, beyond the farming community, and hope to collaborate with both farming personalities and celebrities to help garner support.
“I’m clocking up around 20 hours of fitness training a week to prepare myself for the challenge. I just really hope it’s not still raining by then."
The 11-day route will include hills, totalling an elevation of more than 5,000ft. Three of Nick's friends will cycle the route with Nick, and a range of drivers will drive the forager.
Nick is hoping to raise more than £10,000 for RABI. To donate, click here.
RABI regional manager, Zoe Gascoyne, added: “The challenge is an enormous undertaking in aid of the farming community across the UK and RABI is gratified to be the recipient of the funds raised.”
You can follow the challenge on social media via the hashtag - #CyclingFarmerAndForager.

May 28 – Butterlands Farm, hosted by Kelvin and Liz Fletcher
-
