MONTACUTE House is currently closed to allow the filming of a period drama.
The closure started on January 2 and will be in place until Friday, January 26, “but because of confidentiality agreements, we are not allowed to say what the filming is for, or which actors may be performing,” the National Trust said.
A spokesperson also said: “Montacute House (whole property) will be closed for filming from Tuesday, January 2 to Friday, January 19, 2024.
“The garden, cafe, parkland, and shop will reopen on Saturday, January 20.
“The house will continue to be closed until Friday, January 26, and will reopen on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
“The filming is a period drama, but because of confidentiality agreements, we are not allowed to say what the filming is for, or which actors may be performing.
“National Trust places are popular with film companies and seeing them on screen generates additional interest from visitors.
“We make sure the money from these productions stays with the place used – in this case, it will go towards the costs of keeping the house and estate for ever, for everyone.”
The National Trust describes this property, found to the west of Yeovil, as a “masterpiece of Elizabethan Renaissance architecture and design, with towering walls of glass, glowing ham stone, and surrounding garden”.
Make sure to explore the house, gardens, and porters' lodges, while making time to stop off in the Courtyard Café for brunch, lunch, or a snack.
