A restaurant near Chard has been included among the 100 best local ones as part of the Good Food Guide 2023.
The Cotley Inn in Wambrook was included in the list which was made after months of nominations, inspections and deliberations.
The awards were created 13 years ago to "celebrate the places that are the beating heart of communities around Britain".
The website adds: This year, we received more than 37,000 nominations from diners advocating their beloved local haunts. It turned out to be the strongest field of contenders we’ve ever seen.
"So, alongside our national and regional winners, we are recognising an extended list of venues offering brilliant, creative, personal hospitality in all corners of Britain."
What does the Good Food Guide say about The Cotley Inn?
When discussing The Cotley Inn, the Good Food Guide says: "Found down narrow lanes a few miles from Chard, this remote but civilised hostelry of some character encapsulates many people’s idea of what a rural inn should be like."
It is also well-received on Tripadvisor, earning a score of 4.5/5 from 550 reviews.
The owners, Maddie Beaumont and Ben Porter, were praised for creating a "relaxed atmosphere and easy-going service".
Their seasonal menu was said to reflect "a strong relationship with local suppliers".
A dish such as grilled Cornish monkfish tail with braised baby gem, marie rose sauce, king prawns and violet artichokes was pointed out in particular for this.
It adds: "There are steaks too, popular Sunday roasts, a British cheese slate and generous desserts that play the comfort card."
Alongside the food the "comfortable, simple interior and stunning location" also helped it receive commendation, whilst the "medley of old wooden tables and chairs, local ales, [and] beer garden" gives it a feel of "well-ordered rusticity".
Plus, if you fancy staying over there are some "comfortable" bedrooms in the former stables.
