ORGANISERS of Live in Somerset have today (Monday, February 27) announced the legendary tenor Alfie Boe is performing in Taunton this August.
Since he exploded onto the music scene nearly 20 years ago, Alfie Boe has racked up one extraordinary achievement after another, building a loyal audience on both sides of the Atlantic and rounding off a great Live in Somerset line-up for 2023.
He will be gracing the stage of Vivary Park, adding a fourth and final night to what is already set to be a great weekend of live music on Sunday, August 27.
His rise to classical fame was anything but conventional - Boe grew up in a home where music was ever-present with his parents introducing all sorts of styles, from opera to country, rock 'n' roll to big band swing, pop to rhythm and blues.
From leading the cast of Les Misérables, performing in La Boheme and a spectacular orchestral version of the classic rock album Quadrophenia, Boe has always strived to bring great music to different audiences.
He now performs in some of the world's greatest classical venues, but Alfie Boe also has the rare ability to bring together all sorts of music lovers.
“When I look at the crowd at my concerts,” he says, “I can see I've got Who fans, classical fans, musical theatre fans and jazz fans as well.”
Alfie sold out two headline Vegas shows last summer and is due back there this April. He has just completed three shows in Tokyo.
Boe has two UK Number 1 albums to his credit, sell-out tours, and has collaborations of 'Together' and 'Together Again' with friend and co-star Michael Ball, which combined have sold more than one million copies.
In 2019, he was awarded the OBE.
Alfie Boe will be joined by special guests in Taunton.
Claire Kidger of LCC Live said: “Rounding off our Live in Somerset bank holiday line-up for 2023 by announcing Alfie Boe seemed like the perfect way to go.
"He is a great addition for us and one we’re super excited for.
"We’re over the moon and honoured to be welcoming such an iconic international star such as Alfie, and we hope the sun is shining for him.”
Tickets for Alfie Boe plus special guests go on sale this Friday (March 3) and are available to purchase from www.ticketline.co.uk or Taunton’s Visitor Centre on Fore Street.
