THE A3088 near Yeovil has now been closed to allow Somerset County Council to remove diseased and dying trees.
The crew started their work on the site yesterday, and is expected to remain working on the road until February 24.
The road will, however, be opened for the weekend of February 18/19, allowing weekend travellers a stress-free journey.
The reason the trees are being removed is because many of them have been infected by Ash Dieback, which can easily spread and kill trees if not contained early.
According to the Government website, Ash Trees make up 12% of Great Britain’s broadleaved woodland, and are often found in parks, gardens, hedgerows and roadside margins.
In order to preserve these natural sites, the disease must be tackled.
People are reminded that the closure is from Cartgate roundabout to Bunford roundabout.
For more information on the closure, visit the Somerset County Council website.
